چکیده

Coagulation is presented as an efficient alternative to reduce the silica content in 14 effluents from recovered-paper mills that are intended to be recycled by a final reverse15 osmosis (RO) step. Coagulation pretreatment by several polyaluminum chlorides 16 (PACls) or FeCl3 was optimized prior to the RO process. PACls with low alumina 17 content and high basicity achieved almost a 100% removal of silica at pH 10.5. A good 18 reduction of the silica content was attained without regulating the pH by adding one of 19 these PACls. Silica removal was related to the structure of the produced clots in which 20 cylindrical particles produced higher silica removal. All coagulants removed more than 21 50% of the chemical oxygen demand (COD). 22

Effects of pH, particle size and porosity of raw rice husk and its silica on removing lead and hexavalent chromium from aqueous solution

Adsorbent properties and aqueous characteristics are very important parameters in the removal efficiency (RE) of environmental pollutants. The main goal of this study was to investigate the effects of pH, particle size and porosity of raw rice husk and its silica on removing lead and hexavalent chromium (Cr+6) from aqueous solution. The raw rice husk was collected from north of Iran and the ric...

Ultrasound effects on the activity of free and immobilized urease on the magnetic nanoparticles and silica gel

In this study, the effect of low-frequency ultrasound on the structure and activity of urease enzyme has been investigated. For this purpose, the enzyme was exposed to ultrasound with 20 kHz frequency at different time intervals. The urease enzyme was immobilized on the surface of magnetic nanoparticles (Fe2O3), and activated silica gel with 89% and 66% efficiency respectively. The enzyme activ...

Effects of the pH of Initial Solution on Hydrothermally Synthesized TiO2 Nanoparticles

In this paper, we focused on the effects of initial solution’s pH on the composition, structure and morphology of hydrothermally synthesized titanium oxide nanoparticles. TiCl4 and NaOH were used as titanium source and precipitant, respectively. Phase and structure determination of samples were obtained by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images were used for...

Effect of Amorphous Silica Addition on Martensitic Phase Transformation of Zirconia and Investigation of its Tetragonal Structure Stability Mechanisms

This work is focused on the effect of amorphous SiO2 addition on the phase transformation and microstructural evolution of ZrO2 particles. Considering the structural similarities between the amorphous ZrO2 and its tetragonal structure, XRD results showed initial nucleation of metastable tetragonal ZrO2 from its amorphous matrix upon heat treatment. This metastable phase is unstable in pure ZrO2...
